So when I was planning on doing a Kingdom Hearts costume, I wanted to do Yuffie. But that didn't happen (not yet anyway; I'm planning on making it hopefully), and so I had no KH costume. Then before AX04, my friends Phi and Rene were on my ass trying to get me to do Kairi. I didn't think I looked like her, but they kept insisting I did and I should do the costume. So I said I would, and that's why it exists.

I thought it was going to be a really simple costume... but it turned out to be more complicated than I thought. You can't see it, but much of the fabric is dyed, mainly the skirt and the trim on the white tank top. This took many, MANY tries to get the color to almost perfect, and I had many screw ups along the way; I had to redo the skirt because the first pattern i bought was bad and the fabric was hard to sew through after we washed it. I love cotton, so just about everything on the outfit has cotton or is 100% cotton. Both tanks were made with a stretch knit and the skirt was just a cotton fabric. The trim on the skirt is part cotton, part polyester (and required multiple dyes to get the color right). I made a pair of shorts, too (because you can see it through the slit), out of the same material as the skirt. The collar is stretch knit, too, and the arm/wristband is polar fleece (good for that somewhat fluffy-look). The shoes were nuts, cuz my mom found them and then my dad had to punch eyelets through them and junk. I had to be uber-ghetto and paint the designs on the shoes; I really wanted to use a different method but I didn't have enough time. The belt I bought and layered it with spray paint like crazy; same with the bracelets. I completed this costume in less than a WEEK; that's pretty fast considering how much work there was to be done and how little sleep I got >_<

The necklace was probably the coolest part. I made it myself from materials I bought at Michael's craft store. I bought a cotton cord (very flexible and light), spring claps, fake pearls, bell cap, and a loop. I'm proud of it because I made it myself and it looks better than the crap that the Squeenix site is trying to sell as official merchandise, AND at probably a quarter of the price. I am awesome to the max X3

In the end, this costume came out so well. It's ultra-comfortable (because it's cotton!!) and when I dye my hair red, I DO look like Kairi o_O And it's a great excuse to run around with Phi, who's the perfect Sora EVER.
