General: I'm very, VERY proud of myself for this one ^^ this is one of my most well-done costumes to date. I spent about a month or so working on it, though I thought it would take longer. At first I wanted to cosplay as Lulu, but then I realized I a) don't look like her and b) don't have her cleaveage o_O;; So I decided to do Rikku, cuz I knew there'd be waaaaay too many Yunas anyway, and I looked more like Rikku (or so people say). But all in all, I'm glad I did her cuz I pull it off very well =D

Top: This top wasn't as easy as it looked. I worked with a pattern for a sleevless top w/a collar. I chose a stretch knit because I didn't know exactly what material to choose since the pics I had weren't too... accurate, I guess. I adjusted the pattern and added my own seams to make it like the actual thing. The collar was my big problem, because the first time I did it, it was too high and would bend over. After much frustration and deliberation, I decided to redo it, and added some extra support by stitching on featherweight boning to the inside. I was much happier with this one ^^ I also have a zipper in the back for easy on-and-off. The buckle things on the side were made from vinyl (my new best friend o__o) and vest buckles. I made the metal endings by gluing on tin foil ^^;;;

Ribbons: These were made from taffeta, and not actual ribbons. I chose it cuz the color was better and it gave the feeling of ribbons anyway. Sewing it wasn't really an option because it would bunch a bit on the sides. So I decided to try an iron-on adhesive, which worked pretty well, but the edges were pretty hard and it didn't really flow like a ribbon anymore. The trim was done with puff fabric paint and a special tip to make it a fat line. The bottom design was puff paint, too. The top part that attaches the ribbon to the back of Rikku's top was made from posterboard. I cut out a design and glued everything together, then spraypainted it silver. I figured that posterboard would be the best since it's light-weight and I can design it the way I want. So then I simply glued that part to the back of the top and was finished!

Shorts: These aren't actually as short as they're supposed to be, but they're pretty good anyway. I used cotton and a shorts pattern. I had to sew in the individual lines as seen in the actual thing cuz I couldn't find a fabric of the color that already had the lines in them. The trim was perfect in color, though I wish it was a little more gathered. However, it played off very well in the end.

Armbands & Gloves: For the armbands I used black vinyl, vest buckles, the top part of a snap (pearl topped), and the same material I used for the shorts. I also used interfacing to make the fabric stiffer. The large glove was made from vinyl. The inside is lined with fleece so that the glove wouldn't be hella uncomfortable when I wore it. The smaller glove was made from an already-made glove. I just cut off the fingers and the arm part and sewed the edges in, then used felt for the X and sewed that on, too.

Belt: Bought a regular leather belt and REALLY spraypainted the heck out of it o_O;; Then I used a strip of vinyl and spraypainted it yellow for the contrast, then used the tops of snaps for the metal part and glued it on. It STILL smells like spraypaint, and probably will forever <_<

Leg Pouch: This was kinda UGH cuz of what it took to make it and keep it on. I used black vinyl and tops of snaps for the most part. The actual pouch itself was sewn for the most part, but some of it is superglued =P In order to keep some parts straight and stiff, I hot-glued stiff cardboard to the back. That helped A LOT and made the overall appearance of it much better. I sewed the pouch to a pair of stockings in order to keep it from falling down.

Boots: MY PRIDE & JOY!! I'm the only Rikku who has actual BOOTS!! This was my first attempt at making a shoe cover, and it REALLY turned out well! I started with a pair of cheap white sneakers as my base. For the main part I used white vinyl, and for the brown contrasting parts, I used black vinyl painted a dark brown and sprayed with an acrylic sealant. The insides have a long zipper for easy on-&-off. I mainly used hot glue to construct the boots, but at times I had to use epoxy and other methods o__O For the green cross part and the top part with the green contrast, I used the same cotton material I used for my shorts and strengthened them with fusible interfacing. For the cross part I sewed them to D-rings and on the other end used vinyl cut out with the back part of snaps glued onto it. Then I glued it onto the boots. I left one end of each horizontal strap loose so I could apply a snap to it in order for me to zip & unzip my boots. The side trim was made w/pearl beads on elastic stringing and feathers.

Wig: My first time styling a wig ^^;; I guess I did a pretty good job cuz a lot of ppl thought it was my REAL hair! o__O I ordered the wig from WitchWigs.com (good deals! go there!!). When I got it, it was incredibly long, so I had to cut some hair off. So I busted out the shears and started snipping away (guess I have more barber skills than I thought, LOL). I sprayed the wig with water and applied a gel to it in order to get it in a workable state. I tied it up in a high ponytail leaving hair for the bangs and the two braids in the back. I trimmed the bangs and tied the braids, added the feathers to the ends, and A LOT OF HAIRSPRAY. I think this wig alone ate up one full can o_O;; The green-blue cross hair clips were made from bobby pins and nail polish to paint them.

Accessories: For the necklace, I bought stringing and two different types of beads and strung them alternating colors. Then I tied the ends to clasps so that I could take it on & off. The goggles I bought @ Sport Chalet and removed the strap. I made my own with red crepe and glued it on. The pearl earrings I just bought from an accessory store ^^;;
