General: I know what you're all thinking. And contrary to what most people think, Digimon is COOL!!! =P Nyeh. Oh yeah, so anyway, I *LOVE* this costume! It's extremely comfortable to wear... I purposely made the costume oversized, cause Taichi's this kid and I'm much taller than he would be. ^_^;; It was really fun to make! And Taichi wears IKEA and UCLA colors! =p Taichi's such a cool character and I got to really like the series. So when Ten Ken decided to pull a cast together, I didn't think I could pull off a good Taichi, so I volunteered to be Patamon. =p But shortly after, I decided to be Taichi. I'm glad I did. ^_^
Outfit: I made a simple T-shirt pattern for the shirt and constructed it out of a simple cotton. Instead of wearing a yellow turtleneck underneath the outer blue shirt like Taichi does, I attached a matching yellow cloth to the ends of it to make it look like a shirt underneath. I also ended up sewing the same yellow cloth to previously existing buttons. Previously, I had used a pair of my dad's shorts that resembled Taichi's shorts... but since then, I have remade the shorts to match Taichi's! Ara.. cargo (3D pockets :P) were such a pain to sew... I purchased a long pair of pants from Goodwill, making sure the knee area was wide enough. I cut off the bottoms to just the right length, hemmed the edges, and then took the leftover pant fabric to create the cargo pockets. I just eyeballed it and sewed as I went along, building the pockets onto the pants.. The goggles are tight and kill my head when I wear them, so I keep forgetting to put them on. ^_^; As well as the gloves. Yes, I have gloves.. I just forgot to put them on for pics. :P
Shoes + Socks: This really isn't important information, but I thought it would be fun to point out. The shoes are actually my dad's old tennis shoes. So they're extremely large and comfortable! Another oversized element in the costume to make me look smaller. And yay! Upgraded version of Taichi includes real Japanese loose socks! Although I don't know WHY he wears them... isn't it a girl thing? O_o but they're fun!
Digi Crest + Digivice: You can't see them in the pictures, but I have a Crest and Digivice. They used to be sold in Japanese candy boxes and they make this lovely annoying ringing sound. ^^;
Agumon: I was able to snatch up an inflatable Agumon at a local store. Lucky! ^_^ It's so cute... except whenever I have it with me, all the kids want it and ask me where I got it. ^_^;;
Group: I think our group does an exceptional job fitting the character's appearances! ^_^ Ten Ken's Mimi costume is the best I have seen -- her hat is absolutely amazing as well as the rest of the costume! Plus, she totally looks like Mimi as well! And *glomps Kari* Ha-chan is the cuuuteeessssssttttt Kari! TaKARI forever. Nuff said ;P And Cici hella owns Sora *_*
General: At first I didn't like Mimi, now I love her! She is so cool, so pretty, so sweet! I dunno, but I've found a sort of kindred spirit with Mimi. Hey, I can't go without making a pink costume with blonde hair, now can I? Yeah, some people think she's a ditz, but... okay, she ain't no Izzy. Digimon is still cool, Bowl hat! *sigh* and Kou chan is so adorable, Matt is a hottie... and Tai... has really big hair. *giggle* I loved the Digimon movie by the way!
Dress: I love this dress, again I have found the worlds greatest material to work with, fleece! I'm making almost all my costumes entirely out of this stuff from now on 'cause it doesn't ravel, it looks nice, its soft and comfortable... wai! Its just a really basic slip dress that I added a shawl piece to. It just slips on. I did the trim the night before the movie while my hat was baking.
Hat: Felt, a bowl, some plastic wrap, cardboard, and a lot of fabric stiffener! I cut out a huge piece of felt, mold a bowl piece, glued that together with another hat rim piece and soaked the stuff in fabric stiffener. I put some bias tape on the edge to make it look better, then drilled in some holes to slip the cord in. Its so hard it constitutes a weapon!
Shoes/Socks: Ugh, the thing I need to work on. I used the same boots as Kizuna, repainted them, and stuck some vinyl on them. I plan to redo these. The socks are care of my dad's drawer, I took them and dyed them pink. I love dying things pink!
Group: Taichi is a big meanie who won't let me talk to Matt on the phone! I loved going to the movie in costume, even though there weren't a lot of people... no, wait, because there weren't a lot of people I loved it. I want to get the whole group together so I can graduate to second season Mimi and bowl hat TK!
General: Digimon's so awesome, so when we decided to do a Digimon group, I jumped at the chance ^__^ And I love Sora; I don't really know why, but I bet the beanie has something to do with it =B Yet another costume where I avoid wearing a skirt of any sort.
Top: I've actually had to redo this part. When I first made it, I used a stretch knit and fleecy stuff, and I didn't work with a pattern o_O I had to work w/out one, and the end result was a top that was a TAD bit too small ^^;; I just used a sleeveless top I had as the base and kinda worked my way from there. I wore this costume to Fanime 01 and AX 01 until I decided to redo it for Fanime 02. Luckily, I had a pattern left over from my Rikku costume that was PERFECT for it. I decided to go all fleece for this one. The color was much brighter & better, and it gave it more of an anime feel to it anyway. So I'm much more satisfied with the current incarnation of the shirt ^^;;
Pants: I cheated... I had my mom buy 'em ^^;; But they're a little big, so I might try to find a new pair... plus that stupid Tommy Hilfiger tag thing on the pocket keeps showing ~_~
Shoes: You don't know how HARD it is to find black, gray, and red shoes o_O;; but after much, much, MUCH searching, I found a pair that closely matches the real pair.
Beanie: ^_____^ gotta thank my mom and her awesome knitting skills for the beanie. What makes my costume so different from the rest is that I have the real beanie!! BOOYAKA!! XD Find me a person who has a beanie as good as mine >=D
Group: Dude, everyone's costume is sooooo~ well done, so we pretty much all compliment each other very well ^_^ And big thanks to Gina for being our Matt @ Fanime 02!
General: Yay! It's Season 01 Kari! And I hope that everyone knows about her AWESOME big brother TAI! XD It was wrong of me to have such a huge fixation on her studly brother while I was cosplaying as her. HAR HAR HAR HAR! Anyways, on to the good stuff!
Shirt: The shirt was pretty easy since it needed to be baggy. I made it out of two layers of nice cotton fabric (using just one layer makes it see-through! O_O) and I hemmed the bottom of the shirt. On the other hand, for the sleeves and the collar, I stitched the edges to the inner layer of the shirt so that you wouldn't see the stitches on the outside. It gave the shirt that nice clean-cut look that's present in every Digimon character design. I made the buttons out of white felt, which I just heat n bonded to the shirt.
Pants: Bought the pants during a discount sale at school! Yay! XD
Scarf: I had to double layer the scarf since the fabric was also very see-through. I just stitched around the perimeter of the fabric and left a small opening on the stitching so that I could invert it to hide the ugly stitched edges. Once again....clean-cut look! ^o^
