General: I don't care what anyone says, GGX is my favorite fighting game!! At least they have awesome character designs and PIRATES! Heck, that's why I did May! She's so cute and she swings her anchor and... heh, okay, she's awesome! She and Ky are my two favorite characters and I'm really looking forward to the sequel! I love my anchor so much! *hugs*
Over layer: Okay, this was done in two parts like a jumper. The material is again a lightweight fleece but the soft effect played really well and the color matched perfectly. I used black satin ribbon to make the buckles and the trim, which made it so I didn't have do any sort of weird folding or binding because the ribbon is already seamed. I bought a bunch of buckles and I had a grommeter so that helped a lot. The skirt has a hook to hold it in place as well as two snaps so it doesn't just flop loose, though once it's put together it's completely invisible.
Black leotard and tights: Not too much to say here except the leotard I bought is really interesting, the fabric is some sorta super-lightweight material that's really comfortable and it has a slight lined effect that luckily looked fine and unnoticable.
Hair/Hat: I don't have brown hair, I know, and this was probably the most awkward part of my outfit. I plan to fix my hat and hair for the next time I wear this outfit. Aside from that I used a skull stencil and altered the design for hers and heat and bonded it to the hat I had made.
Shoes: I am so happy that these shoe cover things came out so well, they're the best ones I've done so far. They don't cover the entire shoe, coincidentally the same Mary Janes I use for Roan, but leave enough of the black showing so that it looks much more like her shoe and much better in general. I used the same fleece and ribbon as the rest of my outfit and black elastic to hold them on. A little stuffing was put in the poofy part in front.
Anchor: Okay, yes, this is THE BEST part of the outfit. I basically made a giant pattern out of grocery bags and stuck a piece of plastic pipe down the middle for grip. The rest is just lots and lots of fluff. I wrapped some athletic tape at the bottom and now I just carry it around and sleep with it like a giant pillow *sometimes*. I love making giant plushy things, I hope I can do more!
General: Well, this is my first REAL costume. Meaning I actually MADE it. I didn’t just buy an old robe and glue red circles on it! I bought fabric and used a pattern and sewed it all together!! Not without a lot of help from like everybody, of course, but still, if this keeps up much longer, I won’t be half-assed anymore! I really did put a lot of effort into this... probably not as much as everyone else did, but then, I’m not as psycho as them. Not when it comes to cosplaying anyway...
Kimono: This was completely done from a kimono pattern from buttericks or something I dunno. I used the woman’s body but the men’s sleeves for it. But then I kinda improvised one of the sleeves because you know it’s supposed to be all big and ripped up and stuff. You know. Yeah. So anyway, the material I originally bought was too thin (but it was PURTY! All shiny-like!) so I had to go buy more fabric and make like another kimono that went inside. You know what I mean. Man, I’m bad at writing these things. Anyway, so like yeah. That turned out all right. Ooh, and I cut up lots of little red triangles. It was fun! Um, this costume is really a blur because I really mostly finished it all up at fanime, and I was running on like NOTHING. From the moment I arrived, I got no sleep and no food until after the masquerade. It was quite interesting, I’m sure, but I can’t remember. I do remember wondering every 5 seconds where I was and how I got there. whee! I’m babbling and not talking about the costume! Oops!
Decoration thingies: SO big circles I cut out! They were too big, but they looked all right anyway. Well, that’s what everyone told me. I don’t really believe them. I think they were just saying it because I was freaking out about the fact that I wouldn’t have room to put the little black line at the bottom and and it was horrible and I was going to cry and and and yeah, so I think they were just saying it. Those and the triangles were heat bonded on. IRONING FUN! And like there was a black vesty thing that I didn’t know was supposed to be there until the day before because I just didn’t notice it so so carol’s mommy was very very nice and helped me and I handstitched it on in the car on the way there! it was dark and scary and I couldn’t see and I messed up in a few places and I was getting carsick and there were scary people highbeaming us and then we had fun with mirrors and it was scary but I still got it done! The obi was pretty easy to do. Just a couple long strips of red sewed together to make one loooong strip and with some fabric stiffener on part of it to help make it more obi-er. Oh, and at the con I sewed a little piece or red that was leftover and JUST big enough to work. And a little flower from white leftover fabric was sewed onto that. I forgot the black stripe on that thing too. But yeah, that was the sash.
Other stuff: I wanted a claw, but I didn’t make one because I’m still KINDA half-assed. Oh, the socks, I took an old pair of black socks and cut off the heels and toes. I didn’t get the shoes, so I just wore some slippers. To attempt to get the cleavage going, I got these like stick-on bras, but I had to cut them so you know they wouldn’t be seen. And then toupee tape saved me from showing my goodies to the world. I didn’t quite get the effect I wanted, but whatever. Real people just can’t do that, I think. Well, I guess they could, but I can’t. Well, maybe I could have, but I didn’t have that much time to fool around with stuff. ANYWAY so it didn’t look all that great. It was all right though. The hair was just a huge hair extension thing that I had originally intended on gluing to my head like 15 strands at a time. Would’ve been fun, I’m sure. But I ended up just tying it to my hair and spraying my hair. I guess it looked OKAY but it could’ve been better. Not bad though, for the fact that my hair was done after everyone else had already left for the masquerade and in 5 minutes. I love carol’s mommy! The face designs were barely visible, and one guy thought I had spilled pepto bismol on my face. Grr. So I think I need a darker color next time. And I think that’s everything. Yay! I still don’t know how I’m supposed to keep one eye closed all the time without looking like a retard, but whatever. I think that’s everything. I ramble a lot. Bye!
General: This costume was my first shot at cosplaying. Amazingly enough, it came out quite well! I made the costume for the Guilty Gear X group that a combination of various cosplay groups were doing. I worked on it 3 days before Fanime 2000 and still didn't get it finished before the con. ^.^; So I had my fun putting together the final parts of the costume all during the night before the masquerade! Hurrah for no sleep!
Dress: The dress is actually a two-piece dress (the top Chinese dress and the apron/skirt that goes underneath). I made the Chinese dress piece out of casa satin using a modified store-bought pattern. The pattern didn't help me much, since I had to alter the waist by 6 inches, but it did at least give me a good idea of how to sew the collar, sleeve trimmings and the errrr….black thing that goes across the chest that has the tassels sewn to it. The under dress was made out of a skirt consisting of two layers of regular stiff cotton fabric (one layer was for the pink ribbon trimming and the other layer was for the frilly lace trimming), which was sewn onto a body-tight under shirt.
Sleeves: The sleeves are actually two sleeves put together. The inner sleeve is supposed to be arm tight (arm tight….=P) with gold trimming on it while the outer sleeve is supposed to be big and baggy. So I just made them separately and attached to two pieces together at the top of the sleeve and covered the messy attachments with the little belts that also go on the sleeves. I like my sleeves. Hehehehhe. They're fun to wear. =D
Belts: I just bought little belt buckles and some satin ribbon at Joann's to make the belts. I just folded and heat n bonded the ribbon in half and attached the buckles to them. Little belts are CUTE!! XD
Shoes: Got them at payless for under $10. Yay! And I just wore black socks with her little ankle coverings (which also had belts attached to them) covering the top portion of the socks.
Hair: Doing the hair was interesting. I bought 2 long $1 hair extensions and basically looped the two ends together to get the loop effect. The main hairpiece is actually a BEER CAN! Now that's wicked! XD Unfortunately, I totally forgot to get a can before heading up to Fanime so I had my share of fun romping around the entire convention hunting for a can with Kimi. Now I have a new Pokka Tea can which I'm very happy about but might have to soon replace since it's been crunched so much =P
General: Wow. @_@ When Ten Ken was getting people to do GGX costumes, I originally had intended not to do one... and after bouncing around quite a few ideas for the Fanime masquerade, we decided to go with a huge GGX cast. Somewhere along the way, I got egged into doing Testament. It was a fun and relatively simple costume to do... It's also great how in the game, when the characters switch screen sides, their images are mirrored.. so I had fun trying to decide which side some parts of the costume were supposed to be on. ESPECIALLY since I didn't ever get pictures of the character designs.. so anything I didn't really know I had to wing it, like the backside of the sleeves.
Body: Really... what in the world does the man think he is WEARING?! @_@ It's a SKIRT and a TUBE TOP! The outfit was made out of... PLEATHER! ^o^ Ooh.. gotta love pleather! I really didn't want to make this costume out of any other cloth besides leather or pleather, and finally I got my way! The dress itself was moderately simple to make, with a slit up the right side and darts sewn onto the top to make it more dress-like. The sleeves were more interesting to figure out, and though they stay up on my arms moderately well.. (not really), I ended up using toupee tape to hold it up on my shoulders.
Buckles + whatnot: Several of the GGX characters have buckles and rings and stuff all over their costume... especially Testament! I made a trip to the store where I sifted through millions of buckles and rings and stuff for awhile, and then took them home where I cleaned them, cut them up, spray painted them, and attached them to the costume in various ways. If you look closely, he's got things on his scythe, collar, sleeves, belt, dress, AND shoes. @_@
Scythe: Yay for big props! This thing was huge.. the red scythe is made out of wood (-_-;; with me finding out that I coulda used foamcore AFTER I had made it) and picked out, cut, sanded, painted, etc, by me. It's screwed tightly into this wooden stick I had that's scaled to me and towers over my head. The black attachments were cut out of sheet metal, shaped, spray painted, and also screwed on.
The Group: I may be biased... but I thought we all looked REALLY amazing. ^_^ It was our biggest group yet, and unfortunately we totally did not get very many pics of ourselves... which we will surely make up for at AX01! I'm totally amazed at our entire group... and Ten Ken thinks I look a little TOO much like Testament... I dunno. Either way, I wanted to make sure I didn't look like a GIRL in this costume.. but I was told I look like a guy.. so all's good. ^^;
