First worn at: Fanime 2002
General: Suikoden 2 is such an addicting and AWESOME game. *_* The moment I first played it, I knew that I had to do LOTS of costumes from the series, as I love the designs and the art for it! After much deliberation, I decided to do Meg for my first Gensui outfit.. (with many more to follow) Being much more girly than any other costume, I learned a LOT while making this outfit.. including the fact that I hate skirts. XD
Turtleneck + skirt: I went off on this weird notion that I wanted the fabric to be fluffy and cuddly O_o; but decided on an absolutely lovely green velvet to match Ha-chan's blue velvet for Millie! A simple sleeveless turtleneck was made from a store-bought pattern. The skirt was made out of my own pattern and took a lot of experimenting, finally ending up as a big oval ("washer" XD). The skirt was lined with a shiny white lycra which I had to baste before stitching very carefully with the machine because the lining enjoyed driving me crazy by shifting around. Elastic was used at the waist to gather the skirt into ruffles. I'm quite happy with how it came out; however, if I had enough extra material I'd definitely remake it, using the knowledge that I learned after several trials of making the skirt.
Vest: The vest was made out of panels of peachskin crepe and regular crepe, as I could not find a matching yellow peachskin crepe at the time I was purchasing the fabric. Again, my own self-made pattern, with straps connecting like a halter top and the little darts at the bottom being sewed inside out at first and inverted. In retrospect, I think handstitching might have made the shape come out better, but would have drove me crazy in the process. XD It buttons down the front with three white buttons. Originally, I was contemplating using boning to keep the shape of the vest, but the vest looks fine without it, even creasing a bit just like the art. *points to the picture*
Shoes: Using a regular pair of boots with accurate heels, I built a cardboard pyramid onto the front for the little pointed tips. I traced the boots to make the boot covers out of the same green velvet and white fleece, then secured the fabric to the boots with a combination of duct tape and glue. With this method, the boot covers could be pulled off without ruining the boots and can be reused at any time!
Group: Yaaay more Gensui! Ha-chan makes the CUTEST Millie.. and we got to make good use out of cute girl poses. XD And KURT COBAIN XD Nuff said! Yay! Looking forward to more costumes from this series! Our next pair is planned out already.. XD
General: Waii! Millie is soo cute! Suikoden II character designs are
soooo awesome! XD Millie was really fun to make despite all of the
painstakingly sloooooooow handsewing I had to do for most of the costume
:P But in the end! I was all bubbly happy with the end result!
Hat: I used a really nice beret pattern that I could manipulate for this hat :D The dark blue rim of the hat was made of stretchy velvet which is reeeeeeeally important if you aren't sure about whether you're making the hat too tight or not. The white top of the hat was made of nice white satin and the gold stripe-thingies were made of ribbon that was folded over and stiffened by using heat n' bond. Then to add a little bounce to the flat satin hat (since I totally forgot to line the inside of the hat XD yay me!) I always stuff a nice fluffy scarf inside it :P
Halter Top: This top is made of white lycra, dark blue stretchy velvet and blue spandex type material. I made the pattern myself and basically just cut out each of the different colored parts and sewed them together :P The collar is stuffed with a roll of the stretchy velvet, covered with the blue spandex material and has an eyelet/hook thingy to hook the collar around my neck. yay! The lovely thing about this top is that it's stretchy so it was reeeeeeeeeally comfy to wear XD
Sleeves: I LOVE DETACHED SLEEVES!!!!!!! XD They're lots of fun to make and fun to wear too! Thhe sleeves were made of white lycra (stretchy sleeves are !important! for moving your arms in and for putting on), the dark blue stretchy velvet, blue spandex material and white satin buttons :D I made a basic pattern for the sleeves after having fun measuring the width of my arms at different places. (yes both arms! one can be a little buffer than the other you know XD) The top cuffs and lower trimming were all cut into the shape they should be in and sewn together :P The white satin button worked beautifully for making the random white dot at the top of the sleeves :P I made sure to also hide the loop that was underneath the button (that's where you sew to sew the button on!) by cutting into the fabric a little and pulling the loop part through it and sewing it that way. This way, the button actually seemed like it was a part of the cuff and not just some dangling attachment that was carelessly sewn on :P
Skirt: For the skirt I used white satin, dark blue stretch velvet and red satin buttons. The basic pattern I used for the skirt was a giant donut oval shape XD like Meg has in her skirt! The skirt was basically cut to be a wrap-around skirt that uses hooks to keep the skirt around your waist :D And since darling satin frays like madness, the white satin was double-layered and folded over to hide the hemming stitches I put into it. The dark blue stretchy velvet was sewn on first before double-layering the satin so that you wouldn't see the stitches used to hold the velvet layer in place (no visible stitches is key!)
Leggings: These are made in two pieces.....sock and leg part thing :P The leg part is pretty much a giant rectangle with frills sewn on one end. The frills were stiffened using heat n bond fun :D Then this leg part is tucked into the socks and the junction is hidden using an ankle velvety ribbon. And.......there is another dark blue velvet rim thing that I loosely stitched in.....yay that's that :D
Shoes: typical pumps! yay! Bought them nice and cheap on ebay. The tip of the shoe is covered with dark blue velvet (velvet everywhere!)
Monster: weeeeeeeeeeell.......since I love my dear Fluffy plushie soooooo much, I just used him as my monster thing that's supposed to be on my arm XD
