General: Waiii!!! Okay, so Roan is probably one of my ALL TIME FAVORITE
characters from one of my ALL TIME FAVORITE games, Grandia II. I'm
extremely happy with this costume, so I hope that more people will do
costumes from this series. I think one person total really recognized my
character, but thats more than I expected. Well, I guess all I really have
to add is... Roan is a god! Okay, not really... but yeah! And I love
lollipops! Heh... okay, anyone who's played the game, at least the English
version, will get that joke. All hail Roan! Oh yeah, 'cause I think Roan's
so cool I'll probably be babbling a lot on this costume...Tunic: Heh... okay, this is where I nearly died. I didn't realize how much work it was actually going to take to make this darned thing. I spent something like 12 hours a day for 4 days just putting on the individual little designs. The shirt base is green craft velour, which is one of my favorite fabrics to work with, and the pattern is done entirely in felt, to give it stiffness and to save me from having to edge all those pieces... I can't even imagine having to do that... Oh, and just to let you know, I believe at last count there were 194 or something individual little pieces on that thing! And its accurate... quite a shock when I found out he had a slit in the back of his shirt and that he had decorations there too... *dies*
Shorts: Basic blue and white sailor shorts that I finished at 3:00 in the morning at Fanime when I tacked the white parts down to finish them. Not much else to say, they're pretty comfortable and a nice length. I'd probably wear them out and around this summer.
Hair: I was so happy to find out Roan's hair wasn't short, and that he had it in a tie, because it allowed me to work it so I could just use my natural hair and tie it with the appropriate cloth. It still took me a little while to put it up, but it'll get quicker with practice.
Axe: Wee... the axe was sort of a "oh yeah, sure, umm... why not cut this... oh! Its done?!" thing. Meaning it came together with surprising ease. Thank you Yukito's neighbor for letting me use your wood tools again! So yeah, round piece of wood with the carved end, painted, then I added the blue and the other cord/etching/thingy at the other end. I brought the beads to hang from it, but I couldn't find them in time to put them on at Fanime, but no one noticed... heh...
Backpack: Err... last minute job here... I sewed it together on the way to Fanime, so I'm glad it held together as well as it did. I'll probably do some strengthening on the straps, and add the final felt decorations, but for the most part its not too bad considering the amount of time put into it.
Shoes: Wee... I love these shoes. I've had them for awhile now, and when I saw Roan's shoes I was like, "Oh! I have those shoes already!" My brother thinks they're really girly, and its true, but I don't care! I need to attach the grey on better, but the little yellow bows worked out fine and cute... hee hee hee... I love Roan's shoes! Oh, and I wore two layers of white trouser socks with it, and they worked out great.
