Sakura was very much a dream costume for me to make. Having never made anything of this magnitude before, I doubted my ability to faithfully reproduce her costume. In the midst of debating which Sakura costume to make, I felt that there was something about this costume that had totally drawn me in, despite how scared I was about the complexity. I think it came out alright - and awhile there are little nitpicky things I don't like about it (as with every costume), I am very proud of what I was able to make. I really feel like a princess in it!
Of the fabrics I used for this costume, I think the final count came out to be EIGHT different types. There are three layers of the ballgown over a three layered petticoat, and the gown top has three layers of body, boning, and a doubled over layer of ruffles. The design work constituted most of the hours put into this costume and was a combination of paint and applique. All of the gold applique that you see is not pieced together - they are continuous pieces of fabric throughout the whole design. While this made the design MUCH more tedious to create, I feel the end result really reflects the amount of love I put into this outfit.
I could not stop staring at our Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles group when we finally all got together. I felt so amazing for both myself and my group and that we were able to pull out these costumes for the masquerade, especially after missing out last year. And a load of gratitude goes out to the people who gave me their support while I slaved over this monster of a ballgown, and to Phi for being my noble hero!
